This will be my first Valentines day with a wife not a girlfriend. Unfortunately we’re still paying off the honeymoon so no BIG gifts this year. Luckily one of our wedding gifts was a gift card to the place we had our wedding reception. So I think we’ll be dinning there and remembering all our great moments in that building.

I’m planning to Rosemarry out for a nice dinner on the 13th; haven’t decided which restaurant yet. That would be followed by a fine brunch with plenty of mimosas.

While I”d love to “gallantly show up at her doorstep, 1500 miles away” I think an unexpected visit isn’t quite in the cards. However, I do have a special gift I’m preparing. Mum’s the word though.

What I have planned for Valentine’s Day weekend is to take my nephews and niece to an island close to St. Thomas (USVI) called Culebras for some fishing, sea food, and some boat time. It’s a surprise, so let’s keep it between us.

Great contest and idea Tony! And congrats on the sponsorship! Hmmmm, Valentine’s Day…we’ve got a 16 month old and another one on the way, so there won’t be much romanticizing! We’ll enjoy a nice dinner out, probably the movie “Valentine’s Day” and then call it an early night. Romantic, right!? I feel so old!

Thanks for the contest. I am taking my wife out to dinner and then spending the night out with her. Babysitter is scheduled to stay with our boys overnight, so mom and dad (us) can have a night away.

La Glorias are a very fond memory, I got a box of Serie R as a signing bonus from the last place I worked. Man what a cigar! If I win, I will be out with the wife on Valentines Day at the Daytona 500 and guess what we’ll be smoking them, I’m sure since she loves cigars now too. I thought that this would be a bad thing but she likes med bodied smokes and isn’t afraid to be seen with a large ring gauge! Afterwards, we’ll hit a late night dinner at the beach somewhere like the Upper Deck. Sweet ! Thanks to Bonita Smoke Shop for this killer give-away!

My girlfriend and I typically spend our valentine at home. Since she is a vegetarian and I am not, I typically whip her something up and nice and then I throw a big slab of meat on the grill for myself. After a couple bottles of wine we typically dip into some single barrel bourbon and she sits outside with me while I light a stick! -W

My wife and I got married on Valentine’s Day 6 years ago so I holds extra significance to me. Do to the nature of my work and having very little seniority. I have been away from home and trying to hold onto a job during the winter months. This year I have been laid off and have no options. Financially we are in serious trouble so I can’t afford to do all the wonderful things I want to do for her. I can’t afford any fancy gifts.

This year I am going to write her a letter to tell her what she means to me. We are going through hard times and I know it is equally stressful on her. I am going to make sure the house is clean so she can totally relax. I am going to take care of the kids so she can have some time to herself. We will have a nice dinner cooked by yours truly and served by candlelight. Maybe after that just cuddle up with a good movie.

This year I can’t afford anything really but I am going to try to give my wife more of me. I am just glad that she is very down to earth and not materialistic. She also supports my love of cigars which makes her extra special. Now if I could just get her to start liking the Xbox 360!

Well I wasn’t planning to do anything for Valentine’s Day b/c I didn’t have a girlfriend but now I do so I’m thinking a nice dinner possibly in D.C., maybe a movie and just spending the evening together.

This will be our 12th Valentines day together (my wife and I) so we don’t get too crazy.(4 kids) We’ll probably get rid of the kids, have dinner together open a nice bottle of wine and have a quiet evening together…or we’ll stay at home and just look at each other…and talk about how romantic I used to be! LOL

I have three women in my family to gift each Valentines Day. My wife, and my two daughters 13 and 11 years old..For my wife, a dozen roses, sweet treats, and a nice weekend away. For my daughters each a single rose and a gift card to their favorite store…it’s been my tradition for many years now to treat them all to something nice. For my girls its a reminder of how a man should respect them, love them, and treat them like a fragile vase….

This is my first Valentine’s Day with my wife. Last year I was in Iraq. So i plan on taking her out to a nice dinner with a a couple hours with no crying baby and just some peace and quiet. No stogies that night though, Gots smoochin to do.

    January 18, 2010 at 1:25 pm

Honestly, i would love to just spend Valentine’s day with my wife. Alone, something romantic. But since my newly inherited step-children play such an important role in our lives we will probably end up doing something as a family. I’m thinking, take the day off, movies, lunch, shopping, followed by a lovely dinner at home only to end the day with some family fun and boardgames around the fire. It’s cold up here, so we can snuggle up around the fireplace .

Im luck enough to have a wife whose Bday is Feb 14. Double whammy, so I took the initiative of “moving” Valentines day to March 14th for her. She was excited about my romanticism and I get to save dough on flowers. They are MUCH cheaper in March. On top of that we had a baby in Dec ruining all hopes of any romance that day. Ill be smoking cigars on the patio (God willing).

  34. Thomas R.

    January 19, 2010 at 1:41 am

Since I’m somewhat of a chef, I would likely turn it out in the kitchen. We don’t typically go out that day since it’s always crowded and overpriced. We’ll celebrate it on our time. Afterwards, I’ll enjoy a delicious cigar and she’ll enjoy the aroma. It’s always a nice evening.

  35. MadRobusto

    January 19, 2010 at 2:21 am

Probably a big fat nothing! I’m single, and it’s probably best at this time of my life. Since I found cigars to be my one true love. I will probably be online trying to luck up on a good deal at some of those sites that keep you addicted to them. I’m no Daddy Warbucks so my options are limited. So I’ll be in the company with my dates, from a low end Brocatus to another cutie Puros Indios. If La Gloria Cubana wants to join me, she is always welcomed, I’ve never had the pleasure of making her acquaintance and I’ll take every measure to make her feel right at home! ;0)

It has become a tradition in the last few years that my wife and I make reservations at the castle de blanc or white castle as most people know it. It started as a joke I played but my wife actually liked the idea so we have kept it going. Then onto a movie and after that cigars. This is one day, one day out of the whole year she will smoke a cigar with me. on the patio. Takes the stress out of the day and makes it enjoyable.

Coincidentally, this year’s Valentines day is Chinese New Year. We gonna visit my wife’s hometown in China and meet her family first time. This is already romantic and big enough, not even have to mention a followed second honeymoon in Thailand.

A tradition for many years is for me and my special someone to dine at the chef’s table in the small, intimate surroundings of Lena’s place. Without a reservation and with bottle in hand (Lena’s is BYOB) we arrive. Our table is ready. We never order, confident Lena will, as she has for many years, serve us food which will be the star of a memorable experience. Lena is old now — late 70’s is my guess — and her sons and daughters run the restaurant, but on every Valentine’s Day it is Lena’s smile that greets us as is our tradition.

Well after losing my job last week for being “too nice”, there won’t be any huge cash outlays for V-day. However, that won’t stop me from being “too nice” to my wife of 7 years. I’m opting for flowers this year, but the key here is this: I’m sending a big bouquet of flowers to her work, so she can get them in front of her co-workers. This scores MAJOR points because the women in her office love it, and she gets that great reminder that I love her, and that I still want everyone to know it. It also doesn’t hurt that you put the other guys who work there to shame.

The rest is none of your business! Heh-heh!

Get a babysitter…. take her out for a movie. I know, I know, but that is her idea of an absolute great date. No need for dinner or flowers… Just some quiet time in a theater.

I thought my comment was already here but seems to be missing… so I’ll mention it again.
Booked a long weekend vacation away from the city. Informed her job that she won’t be coming in but didn’t tell her a thing. Going to be a total surprise.

Planning to drop the kiddo off at the folks and enjoy a nice adult meal out to ourselves. Adult beverages will be on the menu and I’ll wrap up the night with a nice smoke.

While raising my kids, on Valentine’s Day I always bought a giant box of Whitman’s chocolates. I recently found a porcelain Whitman’s replica box and I plan to fill it with chocolates and deliver it personally to my daughter and grandkids on Valentine’s Day. It should make for a wonderful keepsake for them, and another chance for Grampa to spoil the little ones!
