So here we are with the list Tony so graciously hyped up in his post earlier this week. It’s not going to be as impressive or fancy but it will be a list, and we all love lists! My plan here is just to go through some of the cigars that I’ve been re-visiting over and over again through the last year. It has nothing to do with release date but focuses more on what’s available to the everyday cigar smoker.

Now let me clarify something, I don’t mean “Average Joe” as in you are not special(I’m sure you’re all special…). I’m more referring to availability to the average person. As you run through Tony’s Top Cigars of 2012, many of them are still very new and haven’t hit some of the far reaching markets, especially not up here in Canada. They will roll out slowly to more shops but some may never make it to local B&M’s. Most of the cigars in my list below are pretty easily available nationwide, with a couple small exceptions, and they have nothing to do with release dates. It’s obviously biased to what’s easily available to me but I think my situation will mimic a lot of our friends out there.

As Tony mentioned in his post, this list is completely home-spun, written for the enjoyment of it, and I by no means consider myself any sort of expert smoker or expert shopper. Everyone’s opinion will vary and these might not be what you expect to see. But I’d love to hear your thoughts, let’s have some fun with this one!

#10 – My Father Le Bijou 1922

I had a bit of a tough time squeezing this cigar into this list, and I have a couple reasons for that. Firstly is the price, most of the vitolas are at or over the $10 range which makes them a little too pricey for most. The savior here is that you can grab the tasty little Petit Robusto for a much fairer price. My second concern was availability, they seem to be available in a lot of stores but also sell out quickly and are slower to re-stock to due the lower yield they have. But this is a cigar I’m constantly looking for, I don’t always buy it because of the price but when I see a sale or a package deal, I’m quick to throw one of these in there. The intense espresso flavors are almost enough for me to want this cigar, but it also gives great cedar, spice and cocoa all backed by a smooth and creamy finish. It’s an all around great cigar and will always be on my shopping list.

#9 – Padilla La Terraza Capa Habano

Now this is a cigar I honestly stumbled into by accident. I found it on sale, read a couple decent reviews and opted to grab a whole box for a steal of a deal. And I’m really glad I did! For the price of only about $2 that you can find these, the cigar is spot on and burns very nicely. You will find some woodsy, almond and coffee flavors here, perhaps a bit of a menthol kick at the start as well. All in a nice smooth medium bodied cigar. Just make sure to get the Habano version as the general consensus is that the Maduro just doesn’t match up.

#8 – Maldonado Dynasty “The Mogul”

This is a name you’ve probably seen pop up on our site before. Paul, leader of the Maldonado Dynasty, has been a great supporter and friend of Casas Fumando but that doesn’t mean we take his cigars lightly. I’ve been lucky enough to smoke through a whole bunch of these cigars, including some pre-release, first release and even a bunch from a fresh batch I received a few weeks ago. Paul is constantly working to make things better and it shows in his cigars. The quality of the sticks continues to rise while the flavors continue to impress. You can expect a silky medium-full bodied cigar with lots of coffee, cocoa, dried fruit and nutmeg flavors that will keep you on your toes. The availability of these is still a bit limited so it was a tough choice for me to add to this list, but if you don’t mind getting them shipped you can definitely find a place to buy these.

#7 – Perdomo Champagne Noir

I’ve always been a pretty big fan of Perdomo, they constantly impress me with top-notch construction on all of their sticks. It’s been rare for me to run into burn issues on their cigars and all of their sticks come in at fair prices. This is a definite commitment to quality that I can appreciate. Typically, Perdomo’s don’t make many top 10 lists because they don’t tend to be in the trendy boutique sphere and also don’t do anything too crazy. They seem to stick to their roots and just keep producing good cigars. I was a fan of the 10th Anniversary Champagne and when I heard about the Champagne Noir, I jumped to try it. I was happily greeted by a delicate mixture of baking spices, cedar, espresso and roasted almonds. Not to mention this was probably one of the slowest burning cigars I have ever lit up. The standard Toro size flew past 2 hours easily, normally I burn through a toro in under 1.5 hours.

#6 – La Aurora 107

It’s been quite a while since this cigar was released but I still find myself seeking them out. The flavors never cease to impress and they usually come in at a very fair price, especially if you find them on sale. There is a wide range of vitolas in this line for everyone. Every time I light one of these up I know I’m going to get an amazing mix of cedar, light spices and some fruity sweetness. These are available just about everywhere so if you’ve been skipping them over recently cause they aren’t all new and trendy, I think it’s time to re-visit this stick!

#5 – Padron 2000 & Londres

I think most everyone knows about this cigar and has probably had one at one time or another. I know I discovered these long ago when I first started smoking cigars. The prices on these are right in the sweet spot of most consumers and they are very widely available. The whole line is very good but I always tend towards the 2000 and Londres. Both the Maduro’s and Naturals seem to be pretty similar in the flavor department and you can expect to find lots of coffee and cocoa making this one tasty cigar!

Padron 2000 Review

#4 – Illusione 888 & 88

I couldn’t decide on which one of these I enjoy more so I decided to group them together since they are pretty similar in my eyes. The ~88~ and ~888~ are staples in my humidor. I know the prices are a bit high but the flavors and construction on these definitely make them worth my while. When you spark up one of these you can expect to find lots of earthy and cedar notes, but the two real winners here for me are the tarty sweet notes near the end and the amazing smooth creamy retrohale that they offer. If you haven’t tried one of these yet, make sure to pick some up! I added the link to our “~888~ Slam” here, the flavors were very similar to the regular ~888~ but I liked the vitola a little more just because it was more comfortable to hold, but both are winners.

#3 – Jaime Garcia Reserva Especial

The first time I had one of these it was sent to me by Tony and I was just blown away by the awesome flavors and construction. I mean who can complain, almost all the cigars out of the My Father factory are top notch. What really caught my attention and keeps me smoking these is the price they come in. For a premium cigar with some awesome flavors and constuctio, the price is amazing. They are also very widely available which can’t be said for all the My Father products. If you like a solid medium bodied stick with awesome flavors such as spice, cedar, espresso and cocoa, you will love this stick.

#2 – Montecristo No. 2 (Cuban)

I know, I know, this is not an easy one for most of our American friends to track down. But it constantly tops my list and many others as one of the best value for a premium cigar you can find. With the right connections, you can get these for under $8 per stick. They have tons of good flavors ranging from coffee to cedar to earthy to creamy, it’s just so good. They do benefit from a bit of time resting but are easily smokable fresh too, you just won’t get some of the more delicate flavors.

#1 – Drew Estate Undercrown

If you’ve been keeping an eye on my twitter feed or the Facebook page, you would have seen quite a few of these pop up over the course of the last year. The meaty and balanced flavors of espresso and spices in the Undercrown just seem to hit the spot everytime. Add on some excellent construction and spot on consistency, and this is a winner. I’m also a fan of the T52 and No.9 but I’ve had a lot more luck tracking down the Undercrowns and their price is also much more digestible as a more frequent cigar. I also love the wrapper on this cigar, it’s so dark and has a ton of toothiness and roughness to it, definitely some eye candy in the cigar world. As I write this I realize I’m running low on them and need to order another box… lol

There are tons more great sticks I could go into that are easily available, these are just a few that I’ve been smoking or wanting to smoke this past year. And this list could change completely in the next 6 months so take it for what it is and enjoy. If you have a couple that are on your constant shopping list and have been heavy hitters this year, let me know in the comments!

(Sorry Lou, I just couldn’t get rid of the goatee! lol)

Before announcing all our winners, I’d like to send a big thanks to Paul Maldonado of The Maldonado Dynasty for all of his awesome support during the fund raiser and his generous donation of a box of “The Mogul”. As you know by know, we’ll be giving away 5-packs of “The Mogul” cigars to 4 lucky winners along with a 5-pack form my personal humidor. My sincerest thanks goes out to you Paul!

Paul Maldonado would also like to share a short message with all our readers, here’s what he has to say:

The Maldonado Dynasty of Beverly Hills would like to thank Tony Casas and Daniel T. at Casas Fumando for offering us this great opportunity to contribute in the fight against cancer. We thank all of you who supported Daniel in this noble campaign and congratulate the Winners! Enjoy our Ultra-Luxurious, Super-Premium cigar “The Mogul,” and keep up with The Maldonado Dynasty at MaldonadoDynasty.com, “Always demand the finest.”

We also wish to announce that we are in the middle of planning our tour schedule for 2012 and look forward to meeting you in person soon. We are also very proud to announce that The Maldonado Black & White Jazz Affair benefiting charities will be hosted in a limited engagement across major U.S. cities.

Respectfully,
Paul Maldonado
President/C.E.O.

Thank you for the kind words Paul!
Now without further adieu, let’s get to the prizes!

The winner of this prize is:Brent Cossairt

Prize #3: 5-pack of the Maldonado Dynasty “The Mogul”

Paul was given the honor of choosing from the hilarious list of names. The name chosen as the best was “The Mo’Gul” and Paul said that it ties everything in well with the Movember Campaign and the cigar name. Well done! We had some funny ones that I’ll post at the bottom for a good laugh. So who came up with that name…
The winner of this prize is:Jeff Oda

Prize #5: 5-pack of the Maldonado Dynasty “The Mogul”

Similar to the above, this prize pack winner was also chosen at random from the list of people who generously donated to my Movember Campaign.
The winner of this prize is:Charlie Greenbacker

For all the winners, please email CasasFumando[at]gmail.com with your address. I want to send out a giant THANK YOU to everyone who supported me!

It’s now week 4 and we are quickly closing in on the end of Movember. I managed to pass the $500 mark in donations thanks to everyone’s generous contributions! Let’s keep that going, if you haven’t donated yet head on over to my Mo’ Space page and Donate to the cause. We still have some great prizes up for grabs! See below for more details. But for now, let the mocking begin as I present to you, The Week 4 stash!

As you should know by now, our friend Paul from The Maldonado Dynasty has graciously donated a whole box of “The Mogul” cigars to help raise money for my Movember campaign. Review of “The Mogul” can be found here. Just yesterday, he also posted a VERY interesting article/interview about his history and how The Maldonado Dynasty came to be. I highly suggest giving it a read over here: http://www.maldonadodynasty.com/dawn-of-a-dynasty.html

Don’t forget that you can also pick up a sampler pack or a box of “The Mogul” directly from the Maldonado Dynasty website: http://www.maldonadodynasty.com/The-Mogul.html

Now here’s a nice summary of how you can win one of the 5 prizes we have up for grabs:
1. Donate to my Movember campaign and help raise funds for Cancer Research
2. “Like” Casas Fumando on Facebook
3. Make up an awesome name for my Stash! See some names from the Week 2 post here

And of course, a quick reminder of the prizes up for grabs:
1. 4 prizes containing a 5-pack of Maldonado Dynasty “The Mogul” Cigars
2. An awesome prize of 5 specially selected cigars from my humidor

So let’s get some more donations in before Movember officially ends next week. Every little bit helps and every little bit is truly appreciated. Hit up my Mo’ Space page and make a donation now! Lots of cigars are up for grabs so make sure you get your entry in!

Today we have a fairly limited cigar up for review that I actually don’t think got all that much Press. It comes from the B&M Exclusive line by Pete Johnson of Tatuaje. If you haven’t stumbled across any of these before, you can find one of the previous ones reviewed here on Casas Fumando, it was the Tatuaje Barclay Rex 100th Anniversary. Pete Johnson continues this line with the Tatuaje TAA Exclusive 2011.

The TAA in the name actually stands for the “Tobacconists Association of America” and unlike his previous B&M Exclusive releases, you will actually be able to find these in more than just 1 store. The total distribution went out to 40+ TAA retailers across the United States of America. There was also a larger production turned around for this cigar with numbers totaling up at 30,000 cigars. This worked out to 1,500 boxes of 20 cigars per box, and if you had a retailer in your area, they would have sold between $10 and $11 per cigar.

As with most exclusives from Tatuaje and Pete Johnson, they don’t last too long on shelves and are already fairly scarce in most areas. One thing that made them a bit of a draw to Tatuaje fans is that Pete hinted the blend was similar to that of the Pork Tenderloin and the Brex. Both of those were limited releases from Tatuaje that were difficult to track down. Pete also decided to change up the shape of this cigar a little bit. You can find that it is a slightly rectangular box-pressed shape and the 5.675 x 54 vitola is also non-standard. I actually found the vitola here to be a good balance between a Toro and Robusto.

The cigar itself comes wrapped in an interesting Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper. Now the wrapper alone doesn’t make the cigar, but both Tony and I both seem to have a great appreciation for a lot of Broadleaf cigars so I’m hoping this continues the trend. It’s terribly cold out here today but I’ve got my propane heater to keep me warm from the outside and a nice tall bottle of beer to keep me warm on the inside. So let’s see what the Tatuaje TAA Exclusive 2011 has in store for me!

Construction:
•	The Tatuaje TAA is actually a tad rough looking on first glance with a few medium to large sized veins and some uneven areas in the diameter
•	The wrapper looks like a tasty chocolate bar with a bit of toothiness and I’m actually getting some sort of glitter type effect on it, could just be my lighting (I later realized the glitter was likely caused by the temperature being so cold that the humidity droplets were icing over…)
•	The cigar sports a closed foot and a box pressed shape, the triple cap ties up the presentation nicely
•	There is a bit of inconsistency with regards to firmness on the cigar too with some areas being soft and springy while others are very firm
•	The cap clipped away fairly cleanly with my double-bladed guillotine cutter, I’m met with a bit of an open draw here that concerns me
•	The draw remains very open which is disappointing

Burn:
•	I actually peeled away the closed foot pieces to reveal a nice clean foot for my toasting since I’ve had terrible luck in the past with closed feet
•	This resulted in a nice and evenly toasted foot and kicked me off to a great start
•	A bit of a wave started after the toasting, we’ll see how it progresses
•	The wave is progressing to be worse and will definitely require some touch-up soon
•	The cigar almost went out and needed a fairly hefty touch-up, but we’re chugging along again now
•	The draw seemed to get a bit tighter after my relight/touch-up and the burn has been a little more consistent, although still a tad wavy

Smoke & Ash:
•	There is an absolute insane amount of smoke coming from each draw of this cigar, I could make smoke signals rivalling campfires with this cigar!
•	Surprisingly, there isn’t much resting smoke coming off the cigar, just a moderate amount giving off a burning wood aroma
•	The ash appears nice and clean so far with a light grey color tone
•	First ash lasted just about an inch before falling off into the ashtray
•	Second ash seemed to keep with the 1 inch mark as it’s standard

Tasting Notes:
•	The wrapper has very little aroma, maybe just a bit of sweet tobacco
•	Since the foot is closed, there isn’t much variance on the aroma but I do get a little bit of spice there
•	The pre-light draw brings more sweet tobacco and spices, both in greater intensities now
•	The initial draws offer an interesting mix of spices dominated by a white pepper type of flavor, mixed in there is also some cedar woodsiness that balances it all out
•	The array of spices keeps changing as I smoke the Tatuaje TAA, there’s a variety of cloves, nutmeg and raw cinnamon along with the white pepper
•	The initial sweetness I detected is pretty much gone but the cedar flavors seem to be balancing out the profile for now
•	There is a very small bite on the retrohale and the finish is a nice smooth cedar flavor
•	The body seems a little hard ot place right now, but I’ll say we’re near medium so far, I suspect that will increase soon though
•	As I approach the half way mark I can’t say I’m getting much else in the flavor department, still spices and cedar
•	It’s not a bad profile but I’m hoping it changes up a bit soon to keep me interested
•	The balance of the cedar seems to be fading away and I’m getting more into a bland tobacco flavor paired with some mixed spices
•	The Tatuaje TAA never really passed the medium threshold, stayed in the range until the end with only a slight buildup
•	I really wish that initial sweetness made a presentation here, it would really bring a nice dimension to this cigar…
•	Flavors going into the last 1.5 inches are really fading away, mostly getting a burnt woodsiness and some leathery flavors
•	Had to put the cigar down a bit early as the flavors started getting harsh

Final Thoughts:
The Tatuaje showed some promise initially and I was enjoying the flavor profile from the start. Unfortunately, that profile didn’t change much as the cigar progressed and actually got a little bland shortly after the halfway mark. I also had a few issues with the burn and an extremely open draw. I think the cigar had some potential and maybe needed a little more rest time in the humidor, I’m not too sure. I’ve come to expect a higher calibre of cigars from Pete Johnson’s B&M exclusive lines and I don’t think this one lived up to the expectations I had. I’d definitely want to try another couple after they’ve had time to rest though and see how age treats them.

Pairings:
As we all know, Christmas is just around the corner and that means by favorite time of year in the brewery world! Christmas and Winter ales are probably my favorite seasonal brews and there’s always cool gift packs available too. You may recognize the Wychwood Brewery name from their famous Hobgoblin ruby ale which I’ve enjoyed in my review of Illusione 888 Slam and it’s own review here. This offering is called “Bah Humbug Christmas Cheer” and is one of theie seasonal ales. I actually found the flavors to be very similar to the Hobgoblin and not as “heavy” as you might expect. It’s basically got that smooth ruby ale character with an added touch of spices common in winter seasonal ales, such as cinnamon. I found it to be a very tasty pairing to the Tatuaje TAA since it offered a change of pace from the cigars profile and kept the whole experience a little more interesting.

So now we’re at week 3 in my Movember campaign and we’re moving along strongly! I must say it’s amazing to see the widespread popularity of Movember here in my hometown and around the world. As of this morning, Canada is leading the pack and has raised a total of over $17 million dollars! That’s incredible! So head on over to my Mo’ Space and get to donating! We’re about halfway through the month so there’s still time!

As of this morning, I’m only $27 short of hitting the $500 milestone! Who’s gonna help push me over the hump?!?! Here’s the link again, make sure to get to Donating! http://www.movember.com/m/1819178 As mentioned, the local support for Movember is awesome. I was at a wedding this weekend and there were tons of people sporting a sweet stash. It was like a 70’s high school reunion or something! And in proper form, I decided to “Suit Up!” for the wedding. Here’s my best Barney Stinson impression for everyone!

It’s week 2 of my Movember Campaign and I’ve got some exciting news! Firstly, I actually have a Mustache now! Yeay me! lol It’s been one week and my updated picture on the Movember page was taken Monday morning after a fresh Sunday shave. I know it’s a little thin for now but give it a couple more weeks. So How am I doing???

I’ve raised over $400 already and I hope to keep pushing on! If you haven’t donated on my Movember page yet, please be sure to do so! You will get entry to win a fantastic cigar prize pack for every dollar you donate. Make sure to read the contest post I made last week to see what you could win.

Now for this weeks EXCITING NEWS! Paul Maldonado of the Maldonado Dynasty contacted me last week after seeing my initiative on the Movember Campaign. He was very impressed and proud that I was giving away a Maldonado Dynasty “The Mogul” as part of my awesome prize pack for the Movember Contest that he went ahead and one-upped me! Paul is sending us an ENTIRE BOX OF “THE MOGUL” TO GIVEAWAY as part of my Movember Campaign!!! How awesome is that?! Thanks so much to Paul and the Maldonado Dynasty for offering up this awesome bonus for such a great cause.

Paul also gave me a little news to give out to our faithful readers. If you haven’t read about “The Mogul” yet, be sure to check out my review I posted awhile back. It’s clear to see I really enjoyed that cigar and I’ve smoked my way through almost 2 boxes ever since. A lot of people who follow us on Twitter and Facebook have asked how they can get their hands on “The Mogul” to try it themselves. As of this moment, boxes of the Maldonado Dynasty “The Mogul” are available directly on their website located here: http://www.maldonadodynasty.com/The-Mogul.html

Now for those people who like to sample their cigars before committing to a box, you’re in luck! Paul told me that “The Mogul” will be available for sale as a Sampler pack of 5 starting this week! A picture of the cigars included in the pack will be available next week. So make sure to order yourself a sampler and if you trust my judgement, go ahead and purchase a whole box, you won’t be disappointed! Here is the link one more time: http://www.maldonadodynasty.com/The-Mogul.html

So I bet you’re asking, “How do I win some of the Maldonado Dynasty “The Mogul” for myself?” Well, we decided we aren’t going to give the entire box away but rather we are going to split it up into 4 separate prize packs of 5-cigars so more people get a chance to try this tasty cigar! Since these were donated as part of the Movember Fund Raiser/Contest, the only way you can win these is by donating (the rules for the original 5-pack I posted about last week will still stand for that prize)

“The Mogul” 5-Pack #1 – Most Donated $$$ for Movember
“The Mogul” 5-Pack #2 – Funniest name for my stash or campaign (Posted in the comments below)
“The Mogul” 5-Pack #3 – Random selection from Donation List on my Movember Page
“The Mogul” 5-Pack #4 – Random selection from Donation List on my Movember Page
Daniel’s 5 Pack! – Don’t forget I’m still giving away my Awesome 5-pack I posted about in my Movember Contest last week.

Now remember, you MUST DONATE TO RECEIVE ONE OF THE ABOVE PRIZE PACKS. At least $1 to be entered for these prize packs and every additional dollar gets you entry into the prize I posted last week in the Movember Contest. So get out your wallets and start donating folks, it all goes towards a great cause!

So we hinted that another contest would be coming up soon so here it is! And this time we’re doing things a little differently and working towards raising donations for a charitable fund as well. What I’m doing is participating in Movember this year and trying to raise some money along with giving away a few sweet cigars!

Now if you havn’t heard of Movember before let me give you a brief summary pulled from their website:

During November each year, Movember is responsible for the sprouting of moustaches on thousands of men’s faces around the world. With their “Mo’s”, these men raise vital funds and awareness for men’s health, specifically prostate cancer.

On Movember 1st, guys register at Movember.com with a clean-shaven face. For the rest of the month, these selfless and generous men, known as Mo Bros, groom, trim and wax their way into the annals of fine moustachery. Movember Mo Bros raise funds by seeking out sponsorship for their Mo-growing efforts.

Mo Bros effectively become walking, talking billboards for the 30 days of November. Through their actions and words, they raise awareness by prompting private and public conversation around the often ignored issue of men’s health.

The whole event started a few years ago in Australia and has quickly become a global phenomenon. I work frequently with people across the globe at the office and I’m hard-pressed to find someone that hasn’t heard of Movember before. In 2010 alone this movement raised well over $70 million dollars for Prostate Cancer and Men’s Health research!

So now you’re all wondering, what do I do and what can I win? To help promote this awesome event I’m giving away this awesome 5 pack of cigars. Make a donation here and you could win the following:

Here’s a list of the cigars and links to the reviews if we have it on our site:
-Arturo Fuente Opus X Perfecxion No. 5
-E.P. Carrillo New Wave Connecticut Robusto
-Cohiba Siglo VI (box date is from 2006!)
-Maldonado Dynasty “The Mogul”
-San Cristobal Robusto

What I will be doing is posting an update every week for the “Status update” of my ‘Mo’. Cheap shots are permitted, but only if you donate first! lol

So how do you win the cigars? Here are the 3 ways to gain entries for this contest:
1. Visit my Movember page and make a donation. You will earn 1 ENTRY FOR EVERY DOLLAR YOU DONATE!
2. “Like” us on our facebook page to get 1 entry (You already have the entry if you’ve “liked” us before)
Keep a lookout for those! the contest will run until the end of November but please get your donations in early!

So please visit my “Mo Space” page here and donate, it’s all for a great cause! And without further delay, here is my launch day picture for week 1, freshly shaven and ready to grow my Mo’!

If you recall a few months ago I had a very rare opportunity to review a pre-release cigar and offer up my opinions as one of a select few bloggers. The cigar I’m referring to of course is “The Mogul” by The Maldonado Dynasty and I had nothing but good things to say about this cigar. I’ve enjoyed a couple more since writing that review and all I have to say is that age is only benefitting these cigars more and more(as if they weren’t good enough?!). I’ve enjoyed each one right down to the nub!

Now typically we don’t post news or press releases on Casas Fumando but The Maldonado Dynasty is offering up a unique chance for anybody to win a whole box of cigars! Not only that, but they are doing it in a very classy way! Take a read through the press release I was sent below and I encourage you to enter and brag about your achievements and successes!

Today we have a very special and exclusive review of the first production cigar from the Maldonado Dynasty. I was recently lucky enough to be sent samples of this cigar, dubbed “The Mogul” from Paul Maldonado. After some chatting on Twitter with Paul I discovered he lived in Canada for awhile so we instantly had a connection and began discussing everything from cigars to Tim Horton’s coffee to poutine! He is a very kind and good hearted person and I was thrilled when he told me I would be receiving samples for this cigar. Paul has a real passion for this company and this cigar and you can instantly tell just by talking with him. Please feel free to drop him a line on twitter @MaldonadoDynsty or visit their website at www.MaldonadoDynasty.com.

The name of this cigar also held sort of a special meaning at this time. The name “The Mogul” seemed to fit perfectly with a recent promotion I was lucky enough to receive at work. So what better cigar to celebrate that accomplishment then with this one. Along with the interesting name, the cigar also has a very intriguing and creative slogan:

“The World’s in Your Hand”

Not only does the cigar have in interesting slogan, the Maldonado Dynasty also portrays it’s own slogan of:

“Always Demand the Finest”

The press release of “The Mogul” sums up this cigar wonderfully so give it a read here:

From the very start, Arapiraca was the choice of Wrapper we had in mind. Never wanting to settle, we stayed true to the rich, strong, slightly sweet leaf. The perfect blend of aged, sun-grown Maduro sweetness, with the boldness of Dominican Binder and leaf, all blended to perfection with Peruvian leaf. The Mogul is the perfect medium-full body premium cigar that will become parallel with the best of the best. Strong and luxurious. After all, we here at The Maldonado Dynasty have a saying: “Always demand the finest.”

We invite you to pick a box up and experience this handcrafted premium cigar for yourself. Also wanting you to to be comfortable in reaching out to us and sharing your comments and questions. After all, we work diligently to make our premium cigars for you, to bring you only the finest. We like to think we create extraordinary moments in time, moments you share with the special people in your life, worthy of The Maldonado Dynasty.
“The Mogul,” is slated for release in late 2010.

Paul Maldonado
President/C.E.O.

Paul and his team have also been busy launching various “Black and White Jazz Affair” events across the country and they plan to continue that in the new year. Double check their website for dates near you! If the pictures and stories I’ve heard are any indication it has been a great success and lots of fun for everyone. As the press release states, the cigars should be hitting stores near you very soon so keep your eyes peeled. Now I have to admit that I had high expectations for this cigar, please take a read through the review and let’s see if it lives up to name, slogan and expectations!

Price:
Burn Time: 1.5 hours

Construction:
•	A beautiful dark shiny wrapper surrounds this very evenly constructed cigar
•	The oily wrapper also has a fair bit of toothiness to it, very appealing to the eye
•	There are a few minor veins but none that pose a threat to the burn of this cigar
•	The top of the cigar is cleanly finished with a triple cap that seamlessly blends into the cigar
•	The foot appears well packed
•	There is a slight soft spring throughout the cigar that is even and consistent throughout
•	The band has an interesting coat of arms style and a great attention to detail
•	The cut was very clean and easy

Burn:
•	Toasting was amazingly even, leaving a nice orange glow on the whole foot
•	Considering all the smoke this is producing it seems to be burning surprisingly slow
•	The first couple inches so far are razor sharp, no wavering at all
•	A few minor burn imperfections happened here and there but they were always quickly corrected without my help
•	Considering the freshness of this cigar and the cold temperatures here the burn was absolutely perfect!

Smoke & Ash:
•	Lots of smoke right from the first draw
•	Tons of resting smoke as well making for some interesting designs in the air
•	The smoke off this cigar is just incredible, an absolute smoke machine!
•	The ash here is a work of ark, almost a solid white with some minor darker accents and so tightly wound, not even moving
•	Ash held on for about 1.5 inches before gently dropping off into the ashtray in one clean and neat piece
•	The next couple of ashes weren’t as long but still nice and clean and they always fell off in the ashtray
•	The amazing amount of smoke on this cigar actually made taking pictures difficult, but the designs it made were interesting enough just to watch

Tasting Notes:
•	The wrapper has a nice cedar aroma with hints of sweet tobacco
•	The foot has more cedar aroma complimented by a sweet cocoa and a touch of spice
•	Pre-light was mostly cedar and spice, the spice left my lips and tongue tingling just a bit
•	Initial draws are packed with a tasty cedar flavor and subtle hints of spice
•	Retro-hale here is mostly cedar with no bite and a smooth finish, overall body is fairly mild so far
•	As the cedar slowly started to back off a nice balance came into play with some nutmeg spice and a slight dried fruit flavor

	•	The dried fruit flavors, sorta like a sweet raisin, are developing very nicely with the nutmeg spice
•	The cedar tapered off in the first third but as I approach the halfway mark it is making a comeback with a bit more spice as well
•	The flavors here continue to develop with some nice coffee notes as the cedar and dried fruit go back and forth as the prominent notes
•	Retrohale has also been passing between cedar and dried fruit, still smooth and no bite.
•	Body is making a slow and steady progression approaching a smooth medium at the halfway mark
•	The coffee has developed nicely into a sweet espresso flavor and is taking charge of the flavors, really enjoying all these subtle changes
•	The cigar finished in the full range with a nice balance of espresso and cedar with no harshness at all

Final Thoughts:
There’s nothing negative that I can say about this cigar, this is what every experience should be like when you sit down with a cigar. It had lots of flavors and dimensions keeping it interesting the whole way through. The burn line was razor sharp right off the bat and never needed a correction or re-light even on this very cold day. Paul had warned me that there might have been burn issues since they were so fresh from the factory but I didn’t experience any at all. The smoke was astonishing and the ash was just perfect. A great experience all around and a definite must-try cigar with unique flavors and superb construction. The slogan for this brand is to “Always Demand the Finest” and rest assured, they live up to that!

Pairings:
At the recommendation of Paul Maldonado I paired this cigar with a Cognac. My choice of cognac today was the Remy Martin XO Special. I’m not a big cognac drinker but I do enjoy a glass occasionally and often with a cigar. Just as Paul had suggested, this made for an excellent pairing. The cognac itself was smooth and balanced and offered delicate floral notes and some raw cinnamon sweetness with a delicious finish. The floral notes seemed to go perfectly with the dried fruit flavors of the cigar. The subtle cinnamon sweetness was a perfect compliment to the cocoa and coffee notes. With both the cigar and pairing offering a fantastic finish this was an excellent match.
I believe this cigar would also pair excellently with a finely aged scotch or some aged Port, both of which are favorites of mine. As for non-alcoholic choices, I’d stick with a smooth and bold coffee. Water could even be a good choice to allow you to fully enjoy the flavors of the cigar.
